Today is a sad day. I found out late last night that a dear old friend of mine has recently passed. He drowned in a nearby lake at a campground. My heart hurts. He just celebrates his 31st birthday. It is hard to see friends you grew up with pass away - especially now. We are too young to hear these things just yet. RIP Carlton. You will be greatly missed. You were such a kind, caring, thoughtful soul and will be missed by many. May you rest in peace.
Today you can download one of nine audio books from Barnes and Noble for free! There are many titles I have not heard of but but Tom Sawyer is one of them so I am going to download it for a bed time audio book for Little Bear. I am sure she'll love it - if not now later on down the road.
You can find details and books here.
Hurry offer ends May 16, 2009 at 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time.

Today is a very special day. Not only is it Friday (and pay week!) but it's also the day that I received my very first blog award!!! Very exciting news, isn't it? I thought so.
I would like to thank thank Elizabeth from Type A Mommy for bestowing this awesome honor upon me. I will gladly accept this award and proudly post it in my sidebar for all to see. Want to know what else is special about this award? It gets to be passed on - Play it forward! A lot of what blogging is about is networking and sharing. It only seems fit that there is a blog award (or two I am sure) out there that would express that.
Here are the rules of the Lemonade Award:
1.Put the logo on your blog or post
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs that show an attitude of gratitude
3. Link to your nominees within your post
4. Comment on their blogs to let them know they've received this award
5. Share the love and link to this post and the person who nominated you for the award
6. Tell us how you've come to have an attitude of gratitude
Here are my nominees for the Lemonade Award, in no particular order:
Katie's Nesting Spot * A Natural Nester * Snip and Snail * A Homespun Heart * Third Wish * Bring On the Lloyds * The Masked Mommy * Classy and Sophisticated * Cooking During Stolen Moments * Arty Girl Designs
As for my own attitude of gratitude, I am grateful that I was blessed to have our daughter. I am abundently grateful. Some of you are probably thinking this is a lousy explanation but hear me out here. I lost three babies before finally conceiving and giving birth to Little Bear. It was very hard for me. I have known since I was a little girl I wanted to be a Mom and for me to go through all that I did to finally get my little girl...well, you can only imagine. For this reason, I am eternally grateful that God gave me the opportunity to have my dream and experience all the joys, tears and fears of Motherhood.
Thanks again to Elizabeth at Type A Mommy for giving me my very first blog award! You are too kind!

If you are anything like me, you spend all day online looking at news, checking e-mail, maybe even chatting? Wouldn't it be great if you could save money while you're at it? There are so many different online clubs and services now that will allow you to save in "real life", offline! Here are a few of my favorite sites:
1. Taking a road trip this Summer? Check out GasBuddy.com for the lowest gas prices for ultimate savings on your trip, or even use it to check the lowest prices in your neighborhood! This little handy dandy feature has saved me quite a few bucks over the last year. I'm certain it will for you as well.
2. Like to read but don't like to pay for books, or maybe your like me and have no time to get to your library, check out Paperbackswap.com . You can trade books with people all over the country, you are responsible for mailing out books but it can be cheaper than buying from the bookstore! How about DVD's? Paperbackswap has a sister site that works just the same Swapadvd.com.
3. Missed a favorite tv show, maybe you can not afford an extra fee each month for aDVR box, or maybe you *gasp* don't have cable! Check out Hulu.com, where you can watch current tv shows such as House, The Office and more and you can also watch movies, or check out the major networks web sites directly, they also will replay current episodes of their shows!
4. Looking to get rid of some old furniture or items around the house but do not want to pay someone to come pick it up, maybe you have an old pool and you can't afford to buy a new one, request one from Freecycle.org. Freecycle is basically what the title says, recycled items for free. One mans junk is another mans treasure should be the motto for this site. If you regularly check you can find some great items too, all for free!
5. Shop around. If you plan to make a purchase online, check every where you can. Many stores offer an online matching or low price guarantee. If you happen to see the store you like has one of these guarantees it pays to shop around. I cannot tell you how many times i've saved a ton of money because of this. If not anything else, this is where the internet proves to be most valuable for my family.
6. Printable coupons. Check out sites like http://www.coupons.com/ or just look around my blog and you will see links to printable coupons. Just because the Sunday paper does not have a certain products coupon, does not mean it is not out there somewhere. Check manufacturer websites too.
7. Skip calling 411 and check out whitepages.com or yellowpages.com, all the same information you would find in the phone book except right online at your computer! I also love to use whitepages.com for "reverse lookups" when I have a number but need a mailing address. If they are listed, they are there.

Unfortunately, this is the last weekly Redbox code! Here is the official letter that was sent out to their Redbox customers:
Dear Redbox Customer,
The word is out that you can take home new release DVDs for only a $1 per night from the big red box. We know you know, because you've saved that dollar as part of redbox' Free Movie Mondays promotion, which is ending after May 11. However, since so many of us could use an extra buck these days, redbox is going to keep the free flicks coming once a month throughout the summer. Beginning June 1, redbox will send a free movie code to your phone on the first Monday of the month as a thank you for using redbox. So start thinking about what you are going to do with those 3 extra dollars this summer – pool noodle... 6 piece McNuggets® and honey... 64 oz cherry icie... And we'll keep thinking up new ways to delight you – Hollywood's newest releases, online reservations, movie reviews, witty remarks... seriously, it's endless.
As new coupon codes become available, I will continue to post them! In the meantime, enjoy your free movie tonight!
